in some countries they use water instead of paper... more hygenic indeed. But i am sure that is worse in terms of energy/polution/environment.
You'll be using vast amounts of drinking water!

Would be interesting to know if the production of recycled toilet paper uses more or less water than cleaning yourself with water.

Collecting rain water would be a great project on it's own. I guess when you want to use it to clean yourself you would need some kind of filtering mechanism, otherwise it wouldn't be very hygienic no?

Collecting rainwater to flush the toilet is the best plan I think. And the installation needed is not very complicated.
