compassionate listening: take a small camping table and two folding chairs and set them anywhere in town. Put on a sign on telling that you will listen to the other person compassionately (like the boddhisattva Avaloketishvara - without judging) to help make the other person feel better. I'll be very very happy to join. tineke

Great idea! Compassionate listening is a very scarce resource in our society.

The West has a similar idea that's been in practice for about sixty years...Carl Rogers proposed "Unconditional Positive Regard" and "Active Listening" in counseling sessions. It's a the process of being a sounding board to listen to others' problems so that they can work them out while the counselor is completely non-judgmental. As a counselor, I hope to work myself out of a job; if everyone provided unconditional positive regard and active listening, there would be no need for counselors.
